Back in November we launched the Creating Connections Photo Competition on the Connector Facebook page. We used RazorCoast to develop this Facebook app which was very easy to set-up and install and we have seen great results through our growing fan base. We would highly recommend this application to anyone looking to create a competition on their Facebook page.

Applicants had to upload a picture of themselves with their favourite connection whether it was a friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, a family member or even a pet. We had loads of entries but sadly there can only be one winner. And who is the lucky winner I hear you ask? Based on your votes, the winner of the Creating Connections Photo Competition is…(drum roll please)…Paul Seeber.

Congratulations to Paul who has won a fantastic gift bag!

Connector Summer BBQOWJO is an e-commerce service, a portable online store enabling people sell on any platform, such as Facebook, or any other website.

It has been in development by designer David Johnston since 2006, with €1.5m invested into the company. The unique thing about OWJO is that it allows customers to buy on Facebook without redirecting them away from fanpages and websites during the sale. Also OWJO allows people to pay with  debit card (Laser) as well as with credit card (Visa, Mastercard, etc). The service only earns money when sales are made and it has a competitive sales commission of 7pc.

As a result, OWJO has received a large variety of adopters. Irish sports store Elverys use it to sell on social networks. The radio station Phantom FM uses it too. The service was also used to sell unseen Thin Lizzy artwork from the creator’s Facebook account.

Here is an example of our OWJO store installed into our WordPress website to promote a Connector event. The same platform was also used on our Facebook page.

And the winner is……. So exiting to be at the first awards of my life, and even better regarding something that I love too: Social Media.

I felt like I was in a movie. Conor was one of the judges and decided to bring us, his team, to a different type of training session, he said: “watch guys and learn as next year we will be on the podium!” I believe that, we are working hard, we have the passion and his knowledge, the perfect mix!

The inaugural Bord Gáis Energy Social Media Awards, which took place Thursday 26th May in the Mansion House in Dublin , organised by Damien Mulley and hosted by the inimitable Ricky O’Shea (radio 2FM), honoured companies that demonstrated innovation in their use of social media in business over the past year. The awards were judged by a panel of industry experts and members of the public.

The Grand Prix Award, for the best overall use of social media, went to Meteor Mobile, who also picked up the award for the best owned-managed business Facebook page. Here the link if you want to check it out: http://www.facebook.com/meteor

Well done to all the Social Media Awards Finalists and Sponsors, it was a great night! Good entertainments, well organised and I loved The Virtual Graffiti Wall, even if I didn’t win!

There is only one last question: will Social Media have “new ways of interacting with the public, provide better services and inevitably generate more sales??”
